EXPLANATORY NOTE

Bill 38 has been enacted as Chapter 33 of the Statutes of Ontario, 2021.
The Remembrance Week Act, 2016 is amended to provide that every worker in Ontario has the right to wear a poppy in the workplace during Remembrance Week.

An Act to amend the Remembrance Week Act, 2016
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1 The Preamble to the Remembrance Week Act, 2016 is amended by adding the following paragraph after the second paragraph:
Poppies are worn during Remembrance Week as a symbol of remembrance and respect.
2 Section 3 of the Act is repealed and the following substituted:
Right to wear a poppy
3 (1) Every worker in Ontario has the right to wear a poppy in the workplace during Remembrance Week.
Same, limit
(2) Subsection (1) does not apply if the wearing of a poppy may pose a danger or hazard to the health, safety or welfare of any person.
Commencement
3 This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
4 The short title of this Act is the Remembrance Week Amendment Act, 2021.
