FAQs about the Art Contest for Youth

Who can apply?

Ontario residents between the ages of 14 and 25 years old are eligible to apply.

What is the application process?

Each artist must fill out an online application form and attach their artwork (max 8MB). Artwork must be submitted digitally.

What if my artwork is more than 8MB?

Larger files up to 19MB should be sent by email to: youtharts@ola.org. Write Art Contest in the subject line.

What is the application deadline?

The deadline is Jan. 2nd, 2017. Applications will be accepted as of November 30th, 2016.

Can I make more than one artwork submission?

No, only one submission per artist will be accepted. If we receive more than one submission from you, we will only consider the first submission received.

When will I find out if my artwork has been selected?

Selected artists will be notified by Jan. 6th, 2017.

Does my artwork have to follow a theme?

Yes, each submission should reflect the theme: “What do you love about Ontario?”

What type of media will be accepted?

VArious art media including drawings, paintings, photography or digital art will be accepted.

What format should my artwork be submitted in?

Artwork must be submitted digitally in PDF, JPEG,TIF or EPS files, minimum 150 DPI.

What size should my artwork be?

Artwork must be 36" x 24" (91.44 cm x 60.96 cm). See banner sample (UPDATED) [PDF Internal Link] for exact criteria.
Note: Each banner will also include our logo at the botttom. 

Where will my artwork be displayed if selected?

Selected artwork will be printed on vinyl banners and displayed prominently on the south grounds of the Legislative Building in Toronto at Queen's Park. The artwork will also be featured on the Legislative Assembly of Ontario website.

When will my banner be displayed?

The banners will be displayed from mid-January to mid-December 2017.

What is the Speaker’s Choice Award?

The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, the Hon. Dave Levac will select one artwork to be awarded the Speaker’s Choice Award. The recipient artist will receive a certificate and a monetary prize.
