EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill amends the Photo Card Act, 2008 to provide for fee waivers for individuals who cannot afford to pay the fees required for photo cards. The Bill also amends the Vital Statistics Act to include fee waivers for individuals who cannot afford to pay the fees required for birth certificates.

An Act to amend the Photo Card Act, 2008 and the Vital Statistics Act with respect to fee waivers for photo cards and birth certificates

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

PHOTO CARD ACT, 2008

1 The Photo Card Act, 2008 is amended by adding the following section:

Fee waiver

8.1  The Minister may, subject to the regulations, waive all or part of the fee to be paid under section 8 if the applicant for or the holder of a photo card is an individual who cannot afford to pay the fee.

VITAL STATISTICS ACT

2 Clause 59.1 (1) (b) of the Vital Statistics Act is repealed and the following substituted:

  (b)  provide for the waiver of payment of those fees in favour of any person or class of persons, including an individual who cannot afford to pay the fee required for a birth certificate.

Commencement

3 This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

4 The short title of this Act is the Fee Waivers (Photo Card and Birth Certificate) Act, 2018.
