An Act to name the last Saturday in September in each year Outdoor Heritage Day in Ontario

Preamble

Ontario is blessed with a vibrant and abundant supply of natural resources that give rise to a wide variety of opportunities for Ontarians. Hunting, fishing, observing wildlife, boating, canoeing, spending time at the cottage, hiking, camping or enjoying winter activities such as skiing, snowshoeing or snowmobiling are a few examples of outdoor activities that Ontario's outdoors offers.

Widespread public appreciation of Ontario's outdoor resources is the key to its sustainable future. By encouraging the responsible use and appreciation of these outdoor resources by all segments of Ontario's society, we will ensure our children and future generations will be able to also enjoy these wonderful opportunities.

The creation of an Outdoor Heritage Day will assist to foster a climate of encouragement to expand Ontarian's participation in a healthy life-style that Ontario's natural resources offer while developing a culture of good stewardship and sustainability.

Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

Outdoor Heritage Day in Ontario

1.  The last Saturday in September in each year is hereby named Outdoor Heritage Day in Ontario.

Commencement

2.  This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3.  The short title of this Act is the Outdoor Heritage Day in Ontario Act, 2006.

The Bill names the last Saturday in September of each year Outdoor Heritage Day in Ontario.
