An Act to amend the Audit Act

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1.(1)Subsection 5 (1) of the Audit Act, as amended by the Statutes of Ontario, 1999, chapter 5, section 1, is further amended by striking out "to be fixed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council" in the 1999 amendment and substituting "within the highest range of salaries paid to deputy ministers in the Ontario civil service.

(2)Subsection 5 (2) of the Act, as re-enacted by the Statutes of Ontario, 1999, chapter 5, section 1, is repealed and the following substituted:

(2)The salary of the Auditor, within the salary range referred to in subsection (1), shall be determined and reviewed annually by the Board.

Commencement

2.This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3.The short title of this Act is the Audit Amendment Act, 1999.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill amends section 5 of the Audit Act, which governs the salary of the Provincial Auditor. Currently, section 5 of the Act states that the Auditor's salary is to be fixed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. The amendments provide that his or her salary is to be set annually by the Board of Internal Economy of the Assembly. The salary must be within the highest range of salaries paid to deputy ministers in the Ontario civil service.
