EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill requires members of the Legislative Assembly to take an oath of allegiance, or a solemn affirmation of allegiance, to Canada.

An Act to provide for an

Oath of Allegiance for the Members

of the Legislative Assembly

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

Oath or solemn affirmation required

1. No member of the Legislative Assembly shall sit in the Assembly unless the member has taken the oath or solemn affirmation set out in the Schedule.

Commencement

2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3. The short title of this Act is the Legislative Assembly Oath of Allegiance Act, 1995.

Schedule

I, (full name of member) do swear (or solemnly affirm) that I will be loyal and bear true allegiance to Canada and that I will perform the duties of Member honestly and justly in conformity with the Constitution of Canada.
