EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill amends the Election Finances Act to provide a $100 limit on the amount that a single person may be charged to attend a fund-raising event. It does not apply in respect of an annual general meeting, policy conference or similar meeting.

An Act to amend the Election Finances Act with respect to charges for fund-raising events

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1 Section 23 of the Election Finances Act is amended by adding the following subsections:

Amount charged to attend event

(7)  The amount charged for a single person to attend a fund-raising event shall not exceed $100.

Exception

(8)  Subsection (7) does not apply in respect of an annual general meeting, policy conference or similar meeting for members held by a registered political party or registered constituency association.

Commencement

2 This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3 The short title of this Act is the Election Finances Amendment Act (Charges for Fund-Raising Events), 2019.
