EXPLANATORY NOTE

Christopher’s Law (Sex Offender Registry), 2000 is amended to require the ministry to make the information recorded on the sex offender registry available to the public in accordance with the regulations.

An Act to amend Christopher's Law (Sex Offender Registry), 2000

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1 Christopher’s Law (Sex Offender Registry), 2000 is amended by adding the following section:

Public access to registry

2.1  (1)  The ministry shall make the information recorded in the sex offender registry available to the public in accordance with the regulations.

(2)  Any disclosure of personal information made under subsection (1) shall be deemed to be in compliance with clause 42 (1) (e) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

2 Section 14 of the Act is amended by adding the following clause:

(a.2) governing the disclosure of information recorded in the sex offender registry to the public, including,

         (i)  prescribing the method by which members of the public may access the information, and

        (ii)  prescribing limitations and restrictions that apply to the disclosure of information;

Commencement

3 This Act comes into force on a day to be named by proclamation of the Lieutenant Governor.

Short title

4 The short title of this Act is the Christopher's Law (Sex Offender Registry) Amendment Act, 2021.
