An Act to amend the

Legislative Assembly Act

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1. Section 61 of the Legislative Assembly Act, as re-enacted by the Statutes of Ontario, 1996, chapter 6, section 7, is amended by adding the following subsections:

Ontario Integrity Commissioner

(1.2) Any increases in the members' salaries shall be in the amount determined by Ontario's Integrity Commissioner from time to time.

Municipal option

(1.3) Any municipality may pass a by-law authorizing the Ontario Integrity Commissioner to determine the salaries for all elected positions within that municipality.

Same

(1.4) A determination by the Ontario Integrity Commissioner pursuant to a by-law passed under subsection (1.3) is binding on the municipality that passed the by-law.

Commencement

2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3. The short title of this Act is the Legislative Assembly Amendment Act, 2000.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill proposes the following change to the Act: The salaries of members would be determined by Ontario's Integrity Commissioner. The Bill also gives municipalities the option of have the commissioner determine the salaries of all elected positions within the municipality.
