An Act respecting the City of Toronto
Preamble
The Corporation of the City of Toronto has applied for special legislation to regulate and prohibit the charging of fees by municipal law enforcement officers appointed by the council of the Corporation to enforce the by-laws of the Corporation.
It is appropriate to grant the application.
Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
By-laws respecting fees
1. The council of The Corporation of the City of Toronto may pass by-laws to regulate or prohibit the charging of fees by municipal law enforcement officers appointed by the council under section 15 of the Police Services Act.
Contents of by-law
2. A by-law passed under section 1 may prescribe,
(a) the amount of fees to be charged by municipal law enforcement officers;
(b) the circumstances under which fees may be charged; and
(c) the method by which fees may be collected, including the creation of a lien under the Repair and Storage Liens Act against articles of the person who owes payment of the fees.
Commencement
3. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
4. The short title of this Act is the City of Toronto Act, 1996.
