Get ready to vote in the 2022 provincial election

The next provincial election takes place on June 2, 2022. Use the checklist below as you prepare to vote.

Make sure you’re eligible to vote. To vote in Ontario, you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older,
  • a Canadian citizen, and
  • a resident of Ontario 

You may also be eligible to vote if you are temporarily residing outside of Ontario

Make voting easier by registering ahead of time. All registered Ontarians receive a voter information card (VIC) with additional instructions about when and where to vote.  

Visit Elections Ontario eRegistration to join the voter’s list. You can add and update your registration information on an ongoing basis.  

Are you a 16- or 17-year-old living in Ontario? If you join the Ontario register of future voters, Elections Ontario will automatically add you to the voters list when you turn 18.

An electoral district or riding is the geographic area that an MPP represents. There are 124 electoral districts in Ontario. Use the Voter information service to find yours.

Learn about the candidates running in your district and select one to vote for in the election. You can: 

  • visit candidate websites 
  • watch debates between candidates 
  • attend candidate events 

You can also research the various political parties in Ontario as you make your decision.

Make sure that your ID meets the Elections Ontario ID requirements.

There are different ways to vote in the 2022 election. Research your options, and decide which method works best for you. You can also request accessibility accommodations

If you are voting in person, determine your polling station and plan your route ahead of time. Polling stations are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET on election day.  

Not sure if you’ll have time to vote? Under the Election Act, employees are allowed three consecutive hours of leave to vote on election day.
