The Speaker’s Dais

The Speaker presides over legislative debates from a throne-like chair in the Legislative Chamber, maintaining order and advising MPPs about the rules of the House. The royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom is carved out of a solid piece of mahogany above the chair, and the year “1867” is carved above that to commemorate Canada’s Confederation.
