A Writ of Election dated the fifteenth day of February 2023, was issued by the Honourable Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Ontario and was addressed to Ryan Leverton, Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Hamilton Centre, for the election of a Member to represent the said Electoral District of Hamilton Centre in the Legislative Assembly of this Province in the room of Andrea Horwath who, since her election as representative of the said Electoral District of Hamilton Centre, has resigned. 

This is to certify that, a poll having been granted and held in Hamilton Centre on the sixteenth day of March 2023, Sarah Jama has been returned as duly elected as appears by the Return of the said Writ of Election, dated the twenty-fourth day of March 2023, which is now lodged of record in my office.

Un décret de convocation des électeurs et des électrices a été émis le quinzième jour de février 2023 par l’honorable lieutenante-gouverneure de la province de l’Ontario adressé à Ryan Leverton, directeur du scrutin de la circonscription électorale de Hamilton-Centre, en vue de l’élection d’un député pour représenter ladite circonscription électorale de Hamilton-Centre à l’Assemblée législative de la province à la place de Andrea Horwath qui, depuis son élection à titre de députée de ladite circonscription électorale de Hamilton-Centre, a démissionnée.

Nous attestons par la présente qu’un scrutin ayant été décidé et tenu dans Hamilton-Centre le seizième jour de mars 2023, Sarah Jama a été dûment élue tel qu’en fait foi le rapport de ladite élection, en date du vingt-quatrième jour du mars 2023, qui a été déposé au registre de mon bureau.

A vacancy has occurred in the membership of the House by reason of the resignation of Merrilee Fullerton as the Member for the Electoral District of Kanata—Carleton, effective March 27, 2023 (Sessional Paper No. 229).
Accordingly, I am issuing my warrant to the Chief Electoral Officer for the issue of a writ for a by-election.

Whereas the independent Financial Accountability Office found that the Government failed to allocate $600 million in COVID-19 response funds and underspent its education budget by $432 million in the 2022-2023 fiscal year; and 

Whereas the funding provided to school boards has been inadequate to cover pandemic-related expenses; and 

Whereas this has resulted in an estimated budget shortfall of at least $100 million for school boards across the province; and 

Whereas school boards are proposing hundreds of staff layoffs due to this budget shortfall; 

Therefore the Legislative Assembly calls on the Government to cover all pandemic-related expenditures for school boards, including the programs and infrastructure needed to support students following three years of learning disruption.
