EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Explanatory Note was written as a reader's aid to Bill 149 and does not form part of the law. Bill 149 has been enacted as Chapter 15 of the Statutes of Ontario, 2002.

The Red Light Cameras Pilot Projects Act, 1998 enacted Part XIV.2 of the Highway Traffic Act governing the use of red light camera system evidence in prosecutions for failing to stop at red lights. The 1998 Act provided for the repeal of Part XIV.2 of the Highway Traffic Act on November 20, 2002.

The Bill extends the life of Part XIV.2 of the Highway Traffic Act for two more years, until November 20, 2004, unless the Lieutenant Governor issues a proclamation before that date, repealing the provisions that would repeal Part XIV.2.
