Clara Sofia Hagarty (1871-1958) was born in Toronto and began her art education there with female artist Sydney Strickland Tully and Edmund Wyly Grier. She later studied in New York before continuing her artwork in Europe. She became a member of the Ontario Society of Artists in 1903 and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1904.
