An Act to amend the
Municipal Act, 2001

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1.  Subsection 3 (1) of the Municipal Act, 2001 is repealed and the following substituted:

Consultation

(1)  The Province of Ontario endorses the principle of ongoing consultation between the Province and municipalities in relation to matters of mutual interest and, consistent with this principle, the Province shall consult with municipalities in accordance with a memorandum of understanding entered into between the Province and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

Commencement

2.  This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3.  The short title of this Act is the Municipal Amendment Act, 2005.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill provides that the Province shall consult with municipalities on matters of mutual interest in accordance with a memorandum of understanding entered into between the Province and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.
