Caroline Monnet was born in Ottawa in 1985 of Anishinaabe and French ancestry and currently lives and works in Montreal. She is a multidisciplinary artist making paintings, textile art, sculpture and film. Her work grapples with colonialism’s impact, updating outdated systems with Anishinaabe methodologies. It has been exhbitied in galleries and screened at festivals across Europe and North America including Montreal, Toronto, Germany, France, Denmark. Here, the geometric forms in Minitig (island) 4 and 6 are Anishinaabe. Monnet has also reworked these forms into other media such as sculpture, painting, tapestry and embroidery.
