Mr. Wilson - That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario should start a campaign to educate the public about Bill 191, Highway Traffic Act Amendment Act (Emergency Vehicle Safety), 2002, that requires motorists to slow down and, where possible and safe to do so, move to a lane not adjacent to the one in which an emergency vehicle is situated to protect police officers, firefighters and other emergency personnel whose vehicles are stopped on the shoulder of the province's roadways with the red lights flashing. Mr. Tascona - Enquiry of the Ministry - Would the Minister of Transportation indicate if he would consider alternatives to traditional guard rails and concrete barriers on Canal Road in Bradford and King City due to soft muck soils and narrow shoulders, such as the steel guard rail bent beam designed by Bradford resident Ron Coffey and undertake a pilot project. Mr. Tascona - Enquiry of the Ministry - Would the Minister of Transportation undertake to expedite a project involving a drainage scheme that would relocate most of the existing north and south canals, improving flood protection and incidentally creating a life-saving berm between the road and the water and fund such a project involving Canal Road in Bradford and King City. Mr. Tascona - Enquiry of the Ministry - Would the Minister of Transportation indicate if the Minister is prepared to provide alternative routes and exits for commuters using Canal Road in Bradford and King City, which include widening Highway 400, improving the unsafe interchange at Highways 400 and 88, adding a second interchange in the Bradford area and constructing the Highways 400 and 404 link and undertake to build and fund such alternatives to relieve the residents of Bradford from paying the price for congested roads, high costs of maintenance and loss of life.
