In celebration of National Poetry Month, Ontario’s Poet Laureate, Randell Adjei, is holding an event with poets from around the province. The Spirit of Poetry Across Ontario will feature readings from poet laureates who represent 15 jurisdictions in Ontario. The virtual event will take place on Zoom on Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m.

National Poetry Month began in the United States in 1996, led by the Academy of American Poets. The League of Canadian Poets launched the month here in 1998 to celebrate poetry’s role in Canadian culture.

Randell Adjei became the first Poet Laureate of Ontario on April 28, 2021. Some responsibilities of the Poet Laureate include promoting art and literacy in the province, celebrating Ontario and its people, and raising the profile of Ontario poets.
