Johnston’s main concern was light and its effects in his paintings. A member of the original Group of Seven, he exhibited with them until he decided in 1924 to work independently. This undated work was formerly known as Winterscape and was likely painted in the 1940s in Simcoe County near Georgian Bay. It was purchased by the Ontario Government in 1951.
Frank Johnston was a member of the Group of Seven.
