The Group of Seven
The Group of Seven was an influential group of Canadian landscape painters from 1920 to 1933, known for creating a distinct Canadian art style and fostering national identity through their art inspired by the Canadian wilderness. The original members were Lawren Harris, Franklin Carmichael, A.Y. Jackson, Franz Johnston, Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald, and Frederick Varley. While the group disbanded in 1932, their legacy continues to dominate Canadian art and cultural perspectives.
