Casson, A.J., (1960s), King's Highway 68 [Oil painting] ©Government of Ontario Art Collection, Archives of Ontario
This painting was likely commissioned by the Ministry of Transportation in the 1960s as part of an effort to document road building and expansion activities of the ministry across the province. The Government owns two other artworks by Casson; a permanently integrated mural created in 1967 for the government’s Art in Architecture program at the Macdonald Block complex at 900 Bay St, Toronto, and its maquette (study) which currently resides at the Archives of Ontario.
