Mrs. Elliott - Resolution - That the Legislative Assembly of Ontario,

(a) Encourages the Municipalities of Ontario to undertake more workfare programs in a manner consistent with the "Common Sense Revolution's" plan for breaking the cycle of welfare dependency and restoring able-bodied people to work;

(b) Endorses the idea that there should be zero-tolerance for welfare fraud and abuse;

(c) Supports a program of mandatory treatment for welfare recipients who use drugs; and

(d) Endorses the "Blueprint" commitment to take further steps to reform welfare and encourage welfare recipients to find work.

(b) Endorses the idea that there should be zero-tolerance for welfare fraud and abuse;

(c) Supports a program of mandatory treatment for welfare recipients who use drugs; and

(d) Endorses the "Blueprint" commitment to take further steps to reform welfare and encourage welfare recipients to find work.

3. Resolves that the Province must now employ cost-effective, modern technology, which is presently available as a progressive process to manage and dispose of waste; and

4. Urges that a more aggressive objective than the present goal of 50% be established to divert waste away from landfill sites.

Since clean water and air is essential to the health and well-being of Ontarians and their confidence in Ontario's water supply and air has been shaken;

Mr. Hampton - Resolution - That this House express its concern for the increasing number of Ontario children living in poverty and seek to achieve the goal of eliminating poverty among Ontario children by adopting the recommendations of Ontario Campaign 2000. Filed on December 1, 1999.

Mr. Hampton - Resolution - Be it resolved that,

1) this Assembly deplores the continuing violations of human rights in Burma, including extrajudicial and arbitrary executions, rape, torture, inhumane treatment, mass arrests, forced labour, forced relocation, and denial of freedom of expression, assembly, association, and movement, as reported by the UN Human Rights Special Rapporteur.

2) these human rights abuses in Burma are the result of policy at the highest level and the
regime's officials bear political and legal responsibility for them.

 
 

3) this Assembly urges the military regime in Burma to:

a) immediately and unconditionally release all detained political leaders and political prisoners, to ensure their physical integrity and to permit them to participate in the process of national reconciliation;

b) repeal all regressive laws;

c) stop all the violations of human rights and in particular the unlawful coercion against the National League for Democracy (NLD) members leading to surrendering of their membership and the closure of NLD offices; and

d) immediately initiate a substantive political dialogue with the Committee Representing the People's Parliament before there is further violent upheaval in Burma.

 
 

4) this Assembly condemns the State Peace and Development Council (formerly named the State Law and Order Restoration Council) for:

a) openly encouraging the production, trade and export of opium and heroin into North America; and

b) racially-motivated genocide against the ethnic peoples in Burma, especially those in Karen, Karenni and Shan States; and

 
 

5) this Assembly urges the Government of Canada to:

a) recognize as the legitimate instrument of the will of the Burmese people the Committee Representing the People's Parliament formed by the National League for Democracy on 15 September 1998 as acquiring the legal authority of 251 MPs and support of the four non-Burman ethnic political parties;

b) take all necessary action to achieve coordinated international action in support of the restoration of human rights in Burma;

c) appeal to the UN Secretary-General to send a special envoy to Burma to continue discussions with the leaders of the military regime as well as with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other leaders in order to make significant advances towards the democratization of Burma. Filed on December 15, 1999.

Ms. Churley - Resolution - That, in the opinion of this House, the General Government Committee reconvene to re-open consideration of the appointment of the Environmental Commissioner, and that, in arriving at its decision, the committee consider the policies of the Office, including Section 7.2 and 7.3 of the Policies and Procedures Manual of the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario which read as follows:

"The high conflict of interest threshold is more stringent for the Offices of the Provincial Legislature, such as the Environmental Commissioner, which performs an independent review of the provincial government."

 
 

"ECO employees must not participate in activities that might identify them as members or supporters of a political party."

Mr. McGuinty - Resolution - That, in the opinion of this House, the current levels of health care funding provided by both the federal and provincial governments are insufficient to properly modernize Ontario's health care services and to provide the quality care that Ontarians need and deserve; and

 
 

Be it further resolved that this House strongly condemns both the federal and provincial governments for wasting millions of health care dollars on an advertising war when this money is needed to improve and modernize Ontario's health care services; and

 
 

Be it further resolved that this House demand that any increase in federal health funding be spent entirely on health care and be applied on top of the levels of health care funding already committed to by the province. Filed on April 3, 2000.

Mr. Hampton - Resolution - That, in the opinion of this House, the provincial and federal governments should reverse the funding cuts that have undermined the operational funding of Ontario's hospitals; and

 
 

That Hamilton's share of the increased health care dollars be used in such a way that the Henderson will remain a full acute care hospital with a 24-hour-a-day emergency room (along with the other three acute care hospitals) to serve the community of Hamilton Mountain and surrounding areas. Mr. Hastings - Resolution - That in the opinion of this House, the Ontario government should provide effective leadership in the development of an innovative public/private partnership with automotive companies, energy providers, financial institutions and other progressive players in the research and development and later, commercial feasibility of integrating methanol into a fuelcell technology. Mr. Hastings - Resolution - That in the opinion of this House, recognizing the recent onslaught of bugs, viruses and other attacks on the internet and recognizing the government's increasing reliance on electronic and internet technology to provide services and communication to its citizens,

The Ontario government should work with other provincial technology industry leaders and the federal government to establish a protocol to respond to these attacks and prevent them from infiltrating and crippling government services and communications in the future. Filed on June 7, 2000.

Mr. Martiniuk - Resolution - That this House,

· commend the Government's initiative of stiffer penalties for drunk drivers and the use of ignition interlock for those convicted three times, and after, a ten year minimum suspension is served and that remedial measures programs completed;

· ask the Ministry of Transportation to re-examine the use of ignition interlock for individuals charged with impaired driving prior to the third offence;

· resolve that the Province ensure that the use of ignition interlock would be an additional administrative sanction and would be in addition to court sentences;

· encourage the Ministry of Transportation to examine ignition interlock initiatives in other jurisdictions;

· encourage the Ministry of Transportation to continue consultation with stakeholders working to eradicate drunk driving;
