EXPLANATORY NOTE
Subsection 32 (5) of the Highway Traffic Act provides that the Minister of Transportation may require persons to submit to examinations and to meet other prescribed requirements in connection with obtaining a driver’s licence. The Bill amends the Act to require that those examinations and requirements be administered by an employee of the Ministry of Transportation.

An Act to amend the Highway Traffic Act with respect to driving examinations
His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1 Subsection 32 (6) of the Highway Traffic Act is repealed and the following substituted:
Ministry to conduct examinations
(6) An employee of the Ministry shall conduct the examinations required under subsection (5) and shall ensure that applicants meet any other prescribed requirements described in that subsection.
Commencement
2 This Act comes into force on the later of January 1, 2026 and the day that is six months after the day this Act receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3 The short title of this Act is the Safer Driving Tests Act (Ending the Privatization Failure), 2024.
