Bill 177 2024

An Act to proclaim Test Your Smoke Alarm Day

Preamble

Fire safety and prevention are priorities in Ontario.

Testing smoke alarms every month is a simple, yet crucial action that can protect loved ones and property from the devastating impacts of fires.

Working smoke alarms save lives and cut the risk of dying in a house fire in half.

By proclaiming September 28 in each year as Test Your Smoke Alarm Day, the Province of Ontario recognizes the importance of working smoke alarms and will remind Ontarians to take the simple, life-saving step to test their smoke alarms monthly. It will also be a day to learn more about smoke alarms, home fire escape planning and fire safety.

Therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

Test Your Smoke Alarm Day

1 September 28 in each year is proclaimed as Test Your Smoke Alarm Day.

2 This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
