An Act to proclaim Tomato Day and to make tomatoes the official vegetable of Ontario

Preamble

Tomatoes are found in a large number of products and represent an important part of Ontario's agriculture sector, which employs thousands of Ontarians. Proclaiming July 15th in each year as Tomato Day and tomatoes as the official vegetable of the Province of Ontario acknowledges the tremendous contribution of tomatoes to the economy of Ontario.

Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

Tomato Day

   1.  July 15 in each year is proclaimed as Tomato Day.

Official vegetable

   2.  The tomato is proclaimed as the official vegetable of the Province of Ontario.

Commencement

   3.  This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

   4.  The short title of this Act is the Tomato Act, 2016.

 

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill proclaims July 15 in each year as Tomato Day and proclaims tomatoes as the official vegetable of the Province of Ontario.
