An Act to amend the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 with respect to the exemption for living accommodation occupied for the purpose of receiving rehabilitative or therapeutic services

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

   1.  Subclause 5 (k) (ii) of the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 is amended by striking out "for no more than a one-year period" at the end and substituting "for no more than a three-year period".

Commencement

   2.  This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

   3.  The short title of this Act is the Residential Tenancies Amendment Act (Rehabilitative or Therapeutic Purposes Exemption), 2015.

 

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill would amend the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006. The current subclause 5 (k) (ii) provides that the Act does not apply to certain living accommodations occupied for the purpose of receiving rehabilitative or therapeutic services if the accommodation is intended to be provided for no more than a one-year period. The Bill extends this to a three-year period.
