Bill 99 2012

An Act to proclaim the month of June Bicycle Month

Preamble

Many Ontarians, both adults and children, bicycle on a regular basis. Bicycling is an important mechanism for decreasing traffic congestion and transportation costs, encouraging active school travel for children and youth, tackling climate change, encouraging economic development through tourism and leisure, and fostering healthy living and vibrant communities across Ontario.

June is celebrated as Bicycle Month by a number of municipalities, organizations and community groups.

By proclaiming the month of June as Bicycle Month in Ontario, the Province of Ontario recognizes the key role bicycling can play in improving the quality of life for Ontarians. Bicycle Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness and engage all Ontarians in the benefits of bicycling and active transportation.
