An Act to amend the Municipal Act, 2001 to name Civic Holiday Simcoe Day

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1. Section 148 of the Municipal Act, 2001 is amended by adding the following subsection:
Simcoe Day
(6) If a by-law passed under this section requires retail businesses be closed to the public on the first Monday in August in every year, the day shall be known as Simcoe Day, in addition to the name, if any, that the by-law declares for the day.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3. The short title of this Act is the Simcoe Day Act, 2007.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill amends the Municipal Act, 2001. If a local or a regional municipality passes a by-law declaring the first Monday in August in every year as a retail business holiday, the day shall be known as Simcoe Day, in addition to the name, if any, that the by-law declares for the day.
