An Act to proclaim Better Hearing and Speech Month

Preamble

Hearing and speech disorders affect approximately 10 per cent of adults and 20 per cent of children in Ontario.

Early detection and treatment are vital for improving the quality of life of persons who suffer from those disorders and for allowing those persons to survive them.

It is appropriate to increase public awareness of hearing and speech disorders by proclaiming the month of May in each year as Better Hearing and Speech Month.

Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

Better Hearing and Speech Month

1.  The month of May in each year is proclaimed as Better Hearing and Speech Month.

Commencement

2.  This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3.  The short title of this Act is the Better Hearing and Speech Month Act, 2006.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill proclaims the month of May in each year as Better Hearing and Speech Month.
