An Act,
in memory of Michael Maxwell,
to amend the Health Insurance Act
to provide for immunization
against meningitis C

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1.  The Health Insurance Act is amended by adding the following section:

Immunization against meningitis C

11.3  (1)  Despite anything in this Act or the regulations or any other Act, but subject to subsection (2), the administration of an immunizing agent against a serogroup C meningoccocal disease by a physician or on the order of a physician is an insured service.

Appropriation required

(2)  No payment shall be made under subsection (1) except under the authority of an appropriation of the Legislature.

Commencement

2.  This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3.  The short title of this Act is the Michael Maxwell Act (Health Insurance Amendment), 2003.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill amends the Health Insurance Act to provide that the administration of an immunizing agent against meningitis C is covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan.
