An Act to amend the
Cabinet Ministers' and
Opposition Leaders'
Expenses Review and
Accountability Act, 2002
with respect to keeping a
registry of travel expense claims

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1. The Cabinet Ministers' and Opposition Leaders' Expenses Review and Accountability Act, 2002 is amended by adding the following sections:

Definition

8.1 In section 8.2,

"travel expense record" means,

(a) every copy of an expense claim submitted by any member of the Legislative Assembly or their staff that relates to travel outside of Ontario,

(b) any supporting document that supports an expense claim mentioned in clause (a),

(c) the itinerary of such travel.

8.2 (1) The Commissioner shall establish and maintain a registry in which shall be kept copies of all travel expense records.

Form of registry

(2) The registry shall be organized in the manner and kept in the form that the Commissioner may determine.

Access to registry

(3) The registry shall be available for public inspection in the manner and during the time that the Commissioner may determine.

Internet access

(4) The Commissioner shall ensure that the contents of the registry are made available to the public through publication on the Internet.

Commencement

2. This Act comes into force 90 days after the day on which it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3. The short title of this Act is the Junket Registry Act, 2003.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Cabinet Ministers' and Opposition Leaders' Expenses Review and Accountability Act, 2002 is amended to provide that the Integrity Commissioner shall maintain a register of documents regarding expenses and itineraries incurred in the course of out-of-province travel by all Members of the Legislative Assembly. The contents of the registry would be published on the Internet.
