An Act respecting
the City of Ottawa

Preamble

The council of the City of Ottawa has applied for special legislation to permit it to pass by-laws requiring that retail business establishments be closed on Remembrance Day until 12:30 o'clock in the afternoon.

It is appropriate to grant the application.

Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

Retail business establishments closing on Remembrance Day

1. (1) The City of Ottawa may require that all or any class or classes of retail business establishments be closed to the public on Remembrance Day in each year until 12:30 o'clock in the afternoon.

Definition

(2) In subsection (1),

"retail business establishment" means the premises where goods or services are sold or offered for sale by retail.

Amendment to The City of Ottawa Act, 1967

2. Section 2 of The City of Ottawa Act, 1967 is repealed.

Commencement

3. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

4. The short title of this Act is the City of Ottawa Act (Remembrance Day), 2002.
