An Act to amend
the Legislative Assembly Act
to provide for the singing
of O Canada

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1. The Legislative Assembly Act is amended by adding the following section:

Anthem

101.1 (1) While the Assembly is in session, on each Monday that the Assembly meets, the members shall stand for the singing of the Canadian National Anthem as the first order of business for the day.

Same

(2) If in any week the Assembly does not meet on a Monday, the members shall stand for the singing of the Canadian National Anthem on the first day of that week that the Assembly does meet.

Commencement

2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3. The short title of this Act is the Canadian National Anthem Act, 2001.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The purpose of the Bill is to require the singing of the Canadian National Anthem to open each week's sitting of the Assembly.
