An Act to make
the first week in September
School Bus Driver Appreciation Week

Preamble

On every school morning in Ontario, more than 16,000 dedicated school bus drivers safely and securely transport more than 880,000 students to school.

There is a great deal of hard work and responsibility in this part-time occupation. School bus drivers conduct mandatory pre-trip inspections of their vehicles, they know the pick-up and drop-off locations on their routes, they remember the names of their passengers and they deal with behavioural issues on the bus. Most importantly, school bus drivers safely operate 6,000 kilogram vehicles in all traffic and road conditions.

Parents put the lives of their children in the hands of school bus drivers and parents, school boards and bus owners have total faith in their capabilities.

It is appropriate to express the community's gratitude, support, understanding and respect for school bus drivers by proclaiming the first week of school as School Bus Driver Appreciation Week.

Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

School Bus Driver
Appreciation Week

1. The first week in September is proclaimed as School Bus Driver Appreciation Week.

Commencement

2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3. The short title of this Act is the School Bus Driver Appreciation Week Act, 2002.
