An Act to proclaim

Ontario Firefighters' Week

Preamble

Firefighters working in the Province of Ontario take extraordinary risks in the line of duty. The people of Ontario owe a debt of gratitude and respect to all firefighters for the work they do every day to ensure our safety.

Firefighters are effective and committed members of their community emergency services team. They serve their communities proudly and unselfishly. All have risked, many have lost, their lives in this work. They are among our bravest men and women. They are our heroes.

In recognition of the esteem bestowed upon firefighters by the people of Ontario and as a tribute to them for ensuring safer communities today and in the future through fire prevention, suppression and education, it is appropriate to establish a week to honour the Province's firefighters.

Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1. The week beginning on the Monday immediately before the first Sunday in October in each year is proclaimed as Ontario Firefighters' Week.

2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
