An Act respecting the

City of Ottawa

Preamble

The Corporation of the City of Ottawa has applied for special legislation in respect of the matters set out in this Act.

It is appropriate to grant the application.

Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

Definitions

1. In this Act,

"Corporation" means The Corporation of the City of Ottawa;

"federal Crown" means Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada and includes a Crown corporation, board, commission or agency of Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada;

"property of the federal Crown" means property, including highways, under the control and management of the federal Crown or vested in the name of the federal Crown.

Agreements with federal Crown

2. (1) The council of the Corporation may, on the terms set out in the agreement, enter into and perform any agreement with the federal Crown for,

(a) the enforcement of regulations made under an Act of Canada with respect to parking contraventions on property of the federal Crown, including the issuing of tickets for vehicles illegally parked, standing or stopped on property of the federal Crown;

(b) prosecutions resulting from the issuing of tickets described in clause (a) and the collection of fines and court costs resulting from the prosecution of those offences;

(c) the management of parking facilities on property of the federal Crown; or

(d) the use of the services of any of the officers or employees of the Corporation in carrying out any of the responsibilities described in clause (a), (b) or (c).

Jurisdiction

(2) For the purposes of carrying out an agreement entered into under this section, the territorial jurisdiction of the council of the Corporation is not confined to the boundaries of the City of Ottawa.

Commencement

3. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

4. The short title of this Act is the City of Ottawa Act, 1996.
