Subcommittee report
The First Vice-Chair (Ms. Laura Smith): Good morning, everyone. The Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs will now come to order.
We have, for the committee’s consideration this morning, a report from our subcommittee on committee business.
Would a member care to read the report into its adoption? MPP Tyler Allsopp.
Mr. Tyler Allsopp: Thank you, Chair.
Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, subcommittee on committee business, report of the subcommittee. Your subcommittee on committee business met on Monday, April 13, 2026, and recommends the following:
(1) That the committee continue its practice agreed to in the 43rd Parliament and consult the recognized party whips or House leaders for a list of members to appoint to each standing committee when a vacancy occurs, and consider independent member requests, via letter to the Chair and Clerk of the Committee, on a case-by-case basis.
(2) That the Chair, on behalf of the committee, send a letter inviting the Honourable Todd McCarthy, acting Minister of Infrastructure, and representatives from the Queen’s Park Restoration Secretariat to appear before the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in order to provide a briefing on the status of the Queen’s Park restoration project; and that the invitation letter from the Chair provide the minister with the option of appearing before the committee in closed session or in open session.
(3) That the Clerk of the Committee send notice of upcoming committee meetings pertaining to Indigenous issues to the groups previously identified in the 43rd Parliament (Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Chiefs of Ontario and Tungasuvvingat Inuit, and Métis Nation of Ontario) and provide a link to watch the proceedings online; and that the Clerk of the Committee send a follow-up message after the meeting which includes the committee transcript and a request for feedback on any matters discussed at the meeting.
(4) That the Clerk of the Committee provide any written submissions received to date pertaining to the Queen’s Park Restoration Secretariat to all members of the committee.
(5) That the Chair, on behalf of the committee, send a letter to the Office of the Ombudsman of Ontario requesting information on how complaints about the Ombudsman and their office are handled.
I move the adoption of the report.
The First Vice-Chair (Ms. Laura Smith): Thank you very much, MPP Allsopp.
Is there any debate? Okay. Are the members ready to vote? All those in favour? Opposed? All right. This motion is carried.
Is there any further business to discuss this morning? If none—
Interruption.
The First Vice-Chair (Ms. Laura Smith): —other than opening up our fruit. Okay.
Interjection.
The First Vice-Chair (Ms. Laura Smith): I just started.
Seeing no further business, this meeting is adjourned.
The committee adjourned at 0903.
