The Chair (Mr. Lorne Coe): Good afternoon, everyone. The Standing Committee on Justice Policy will now come to order. We’re joined by staff from the legislative research, Hansard and broadcast and recording.

As usual, please wait until I recognize you before starting to speak. As always, all comments should go through the Chair, please.

Are there any questions before we begin? I don’t see any.

We’re meeting today to consider the motion filed pursuant to standing order 120. Who would like to move the motion? MPP Ciriello, please.

MPP Monica Ciriello: I move the motion filed pursuant to standing order 120 that the Standing Committee on Justice Policy meet for the purpose of scheduling the consideration of Bill 119.

The Chair (Mr. Lorne Coe): Members, pursuant to standing order 120(c), 30 minutes shall be allotted to debate the motion. At the end of that time, I will put the question. I will apportion 10 minutes to the government members, 10 minutes to the official opposition members and 10 minutes to the third party members.

Who would like to speak to the motion? MPP Ciriello, you moved it. Are you going to speak to it?

MPP Monica Ciriello: I think it’s just as clear as possible.

Official opposition—MPP Wong-Tam, did you want to speak to the motion?

MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam: I guess my only question—maybe not a speech, but rather a point of clarification: Is there a subsequent motion coming up with the details?

MPP Monica Ciriello: Correct, yes.

MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam: Okay. Great. Then I have no further questions.

MPP Monica Ciriello: I move that the committee enter closed session for the purpose of organizing committee business.

The Chair (Mr. Lorne Coe): Any debate? MPP Wong-Tam.

MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam: It’s a simple scheduling matter. We don’t need to go in camera. I’ve said the same thing on previous motions akin to this. This is simply a scheduling matter; there’s nothing substantial to it. The public has every right to know how we deliberate and decide these dates.
