STANDING COMMITTEE ON FINANCE AND ECONOMIC AFFAIRS

COMITÉ PERMANENT DES FINANCES ET DES AFFAIRES ÉCONOMIQUES

Wednesday 31 January 2018 Mercredi 31 janvier 2018

Pre-budget consultations

The committee met at 1613 in room 151, following a closed session.

Pre-budget consultations

The Chair (Ms. Ann Hoggarth): I’ll bring the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs to order in open session. We are here to finish report-writing.

I will go through some questions, and as of right now we will be voting with our voices unless someone requests otherwise.

Shall the draft report, as amended, be adopted subject to the approval of the subcommittee? There’s a “no.”

Shall the draft report, as amended, be adopted subject to the approval of the subcommittee? All those in favour?

Interjections.

Mr. Yvan Baker: It’s not recorded.

The Chair (Ms. Ann Hoggarth): It’s not recorded.

All those opposed? It’s carried.

Shall the final report be translated and printed? Agreed.

Upon receipt of the printed report, shall the Chair present the committee’s report to the House with a motion that the recommendations contained in the report be adopted? Did somebody say “no”?

So we will vote. All those in favour? Opposed? Carried.

Are there any further comments or questions? MPP Baker.

Mr. Yvan Baker: Chair, I think copies have been distributed to all the members.

I move that a copy of the final report of the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs on the pre-budget consultations 2018 be presented to the Minister of Finance prior to the report being translated, printed and tabled in the House.

The Chair (Ms. Ann Hoggarth): Any discussion?

Mr. Toby Barrett: Is it being made available to the other members of the three parties as well?

The Chair (Ms. Ann Hoggarth): The Clerk will explain that to you.

The Clerk of the Committee (Mr. Eric Rennie): Traditionally, the report, upon the will of the committee, has been made available to the Minister of Finance prior to it being translated, and tabled in the House, so that the minister sees it in advance in preparing for the budget. Typically, the rest of the members from the three caucuses see it when the report is tabled in the House so that all members receive the final report at the same time.

Mr. Toby Barrett: Okay.

The Chair (Ms. Ann Hoggarth): So that means it’s confidential until that point—only to committee members.

All those in favour of the motion? Opposed? Carried.

There being no further business, we stand adjourned. Thank you, committee members, and thank you to all the staff.

The committee adjourned at 1616.
