Salathé, Frédéric or Friedrich (1852), Niagara Falls, The Horse Shoe [Colour aquatint and etching] ©Government of Ontario Art Collection, Archives of Ontario
Salathé created this depiction of Niagara Falls based on an 1850 original by Hippolyte Victor-Valentin Sebron, a French painter who was engaged to visit North America during the late 1840s and early 1850s to create landscape dioramas.
Note the inclusion of a Maid of the Mist steam boat near the bottom of the falls - an excursion that commenced operations in 1846.
