Marmaduke Matthews was a founding member of the Ontario Society of Artists (O.S.A.) and its President from 1894-95. This work was likely created during one of the artist's expeditions to the Rockies in 1887 and 1889 or possibly copied from an earlier version of one of his paintings. The subject of this painting, Mount Burgess, is located in British Columbia's Yoho National Park near the B.C./Alberta border and used to be featured on the Canadian $10 bill.
