The polar bear is the largest predatory mammal on four legs, with an adult male weighing up to 700 kg. With their dense fur and thick fat layer they are able to withstand brutally cold temperatures. The polar bear is a species at risk. Rising temperatures are reducing sea ice, providing less opportunity for the bears to hunt seals. Polar Bear Provincial Park is Ontario’s largest provincial park at 2.4 million hectares (5.9 million acres). It is situated on the shores of Hudson Bay in a sub-arctic zone.
