Once a species on the brink of extinction in North America due to exposure to agricultural chemicals such as DDT, the peregrine falcon has made a significant comeback since the banning of these products. This incredible raptor is known for its ability to silently hunt other birds on the wing, stooping to pluck them out of the sky at up to 300 kilometres per hour. Situated 130 km north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Lake Superior Provincial Park is spread over 160,000 hectares (395,369 acres) along the rugged east coast of Lake Superior. The high cliffs along the park’s shore provide secluded nesting areas for 120 bird species.
