Ontario's First Mace

Ontario's First Mace - The First Mace of Upper Canada (1792)

On April 27, 1813, the United States launched an attack on York.  In the aftermath of the battle, American troops and sympathizers burned and looted many of the town’s public structures, including Upper Canada’s parliament buildings.  The Mace was taken as a prize of war and kept until 1934, when U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt returned the Mace as a gesture of friendship.
