Timothy Pardee was an MPP from 1867-1889, and served as the Commissioner of Crown Lands for 16 of his 22 years in office. He regulated the administration of Ontario’s natural resources and passed legislation to protect the province’s forests.
Major-General Sir Isaac Brock is one of the best-known military leaders from the War of 1812. His heroic death at the Battle of Queenston Heights motivated British troops to recapture land lost to the Americans.
Robert Baldwin helped bring responsible government to Canada in the 1840s. This meant that the executive level (the appointed cabinet) would now be accountable to the parliament (elected by the people).
Matthew Crooks Cameron was Ontario’s first provincial secretary and registrar. He was instrumental in helping Premier John Sandfield Macdonald pass legislation encouraging development in northern Ontario, and organizing a free, compulsory education system in the province.
