William Hume Blake served as Solicitor-General for Upper Canada (now Ontario) from 1848-49. He introduced important legal reforms and was instrumental in reorganizing the court systems.
John Graves Simcoe was the first Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada. He oversaw the earliest meetings of the legislature, and passed legislation to abolish slavery in the colony.
John Beverley Robinson was a Member of the Legislature of Upper Canada and then served as Chief Justice of Upper Canada from 1829-62. He was an early proponent of the union of British North America.
John Sandfield Macdonald was Ontario’s first Premier after Confederation. He encouraged development in northern Ontario, and reorganized the school system to include free, compulsory education in Ontario.
