Resilience is Futile: The Life and Death and Life of Julie S. Lalonde (Between the Lines, 2020) was the winning entry of the 2020 Speaker’s Book Award. The Honourable Ted Arnott, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, made the announcement during House proceedings on October 5th, 2020.

Resilience is Futile recounts the story of Julie S. Lalonde, an award-winning advocate for women’s rights, who kept the secret of her own experience fleeing intimate partner violence at age twenty. It is a story of survival, courage, and ultimately, hope. Ms. Lalonde recounts her experiences as a survivor who refused to give up, and she presents a challenge to the ways we understand trauma and resilience in our society.

Resilience is Futile is available for sale at the Legislative Assembly Gift Shop and featured in the Legislative Library.
