Subcommittee report
The Chair (Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong): Good morning, everyone. It’s nice to hear all the chatter, but we want to get down to business so we can get back to what we have to do outside of this.
Thank you all for coming. We are here today to discuss the report that we had by subcommittee, so if I could ask an MPP to move the report, please. MPP Burch.
Mr. Jeff Burch: I move that the Chair, on behalf of the committee, send a letter inviting the Honourable Todd McCarthy, Minister of Infrastructure, and representatives from the Queen’s Park—
The Chair (Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong): Sorry, Jeff. Can you start from “your subcommittee”? Does everyone have a copy of it? Okay. Perfect.
Mr. Jeff Burch: Your subcommittee on committee business met on November 13, 2025, to consider the project to restore the legislative building at Queen’s Park, including any relocation of legislative operations to a temporary location throughout the project and recommends the following:
(1) That the Chair, on behalf of the committee, send a letter inviting the Honourable Todd McCarthy, Minister of Infrastructure, and representatives from the Queen’s Park Restoration Secretariat to appear before the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., in order to provide a briefing on the status of the Queen’s Park restoration project.
(2) That the invitation letter from the Chair provide the minister with the option of appearing before the committee in closed session or in open session.
I move acceptance of the report.
The Chair (Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong): Great. The MPP moved adoption of the report. Is there any debate and discussion about the information on the table?
I know you’ll want to say something.
Mr. Tyler Allsopp: No, I’m fine with that. Our friends at the Ministry of Infrastructure let us know that that was a date that they had available. Certainly, I think there’s a lot of interest in how that project is progressing and where we are. So I really welcome the opportunity to hear from the minister on December 4.
The Chair (Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong): Okay. Any other thoughts, debates? No? Okay.
Let’s take a vote. All in favour of adoption of the report? Okay. Any opposed? No? Okay. So the vote passes: all in favour.
Further discussions anyone wants to have before we close the meeting off? Well, that was nice and short. Thank you, everyone. All right, we’ll see you on December 4.
Mr. Jeff Burch: I’ve got one. Is there any update from the BOIE on the legislative—what’s it called? The national—
The Chair (Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong): The membership?
Mr. Jeff Burch: The National Conference of State Legislatures.
The Chair (Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong): Yes. I’ll have the Clerk update us on that.
The Clerk of the Committee (Mr. Christopher Tyrell): There was a letter that was sent to the Board of Internal Economy, along with some accompanying letters of support from a couple of members of the committee. All that has been sent to them. We have not heard anything back, as yet.
Mr. Jeff Burch: Okay. We’re going to Chicago the 9th to the 13th—
The Chair (Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong): Of December.
Mr. Jeff Burch: Yes. So I’m not sure if it will happen by then.
The Clerk of the Committee (Mr. Christopher Tyrell): As soon as I hear back, I will let the committee know.
The Chair (Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong): So that’s actually a good follow-up question. When did we send the letter? Do we know? I can’t remember.
The Clerk of the Committee (Mr. Christopher Tyrell): It was two weeks ago, maybe.
The Chair (Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong): Two weeks? Okay, so hopefully we’ll hear soon. Any other—
Mr. Tyler Allsopp: The post is slow.
Mr. Jeff Burch: Can you time-allocate that?
The Chair (Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong): Talk to them, Allsopp.
Okay. Meeting adjourned. Thank you, everyone.
The committee adjourned at 0904.
