The committee met at 1300 in committee room 1.

Agricultural Research Institute of Ontario Amendment Act, 2024 Loi de 2024 modifiant la Loi sur l’Institut de recherche agricole de l’Ontario

Consideration of the following bill:

Bill 155, An Act to amend the Agricultural Research Institute of Ontario Act / Projet de loi 155, Loi modifiant la Loi sur l’Institut de recherche agricole de l’Ontario.

The Vice-Chair (Mr. Mike Schreiner): Good afternoon, everyone. The Standing Committee on the Interior will come to order. We are here to conduct clause-by-clause consideration of Bill 155, An Act to amend the Agricultural Research Institute of Ontario Act.

Please wait until I recognize you before starting to speak. As always, all comments should go through the Chair.

Any there any questions before we begin? Are there any comments or questions to any section or schedule of the bill, and if so, which section?

We will now begin clause-by-clause consideration of Bill 155. Since there are no amendments to sections 1 to 24 of the bill, does the committee agree to bundle them together? Agreed.

Is there any debate on sections 1 to 24?

Interjection.

The Vice-Chair (Mr. Mike Schreiner): Stay in line over there, sir.

Are the members ready to vote? Shall sections 1 to 24 carry? All those in favour, please raise your hand. All those opposed, please raise your hand. Sections 1 to 24 carry.

Shall the preamble of the bill carry? All those in favour, please raise your hand. All those opposed, please raise your hand. The preamble carries.

Shall the title of the bill carry? All those in favour, please raise your hand. All those opposed, please raise your hand. The title of the bill carries.

Shall Bill 155 carry? All those in favour, please raise your hand. All those opposed, please raise your hand. The bill carries.

Shall I report the bill to the House? All those in favour, please raise your hand. All those opposed, please raise your hand. The bill shall be reported to the House.

Is there any additional business before we adjourn? I recognize MPP Yakabuski.

Mr. John Yakabuski: Yes, I do have business before the committee. I have a motion, and I know the response that I’m going to receive from the member from Timiskaming–Cochrane, but I’m going to proceed with the motion anyway.

I move that the committee enter closed session for the purposes of organizing committee business.

The Vice-Chair (Mr. Mike Schreiner): MPP Yakabuski has moved a motion. Is there any discussion or comment on the motion? MPP Vanthof.

Mr. John Vanthof: I’d just like to put on the record, as we have done many times, that we see no real reason to go into closed session for organization of committee business. There is already enough distrust in government, and we don’t need to sow more distrust where it doesn’t even need to exist. We are opposed to moving into closed session, but as is normally the case, we fully expect to lose this vote.

The Vice-Chair (Mr. Mike Schreiner): Any further debate? If none, I will now put the question.

All those in favour of the motion, please raise your hand. All those opposed, please raise your hand. The motion is carried.

We’ll move into closed session. We’ll take a brief recess for staff to prepare the room for a closed session.

The committee recessed at 1304 and later continued in closed session.
